Man eating crocodiles, dinner plate sized spiders and venomous
snakes should not put you off visiting Kakadu's vast wilderness of forests,
billabongs, huge waterfalls and magnificent rock formations. The time to visit Kakadu is
from May to October when the baking heat cracks the soil and vegetation shrivels, but it
allows you to reach places such as Twin and Jim Jim falls and Ubir Rock, home to some of
Australia's most impressive Aboriginal rock art. During the rest of the year thunderous
rains make much of Kakadu impenetrable. From Darwin, tours of varying luxury and length
can be arranged. Sleeping under the stars in a swag bag next to a crocodile infested
billabong to a plush full board room at the crocodile shaped Gagudju Crocodile Hotel in
Jabiru.
